Meet the team behind

Pimbury ProFeeds

Meet Dr. Mark Barnett

PhD | Equine Nutritional Physiologist | Research-Driven Formulator

With a lifelong connection to horses and a passion for science-based nutrition, Dr. Mark Barnett brings a rare depth of knowledge and experience to the equine industry. Raised on his family’s Australian Stock Horse stud, Mark was in the saddle from a young age riding, showing, and competing in a variety of horse sports. That early hands on experience would later become the foundation for a career dedicated to equine health and performance.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Livestock Science (Hons I) and a PhD in Animal Nutritional Physiology from the University of New England. He went on to lecture in Animal and Equine Nutrition at the Charles Sturt University School of Veterinary Sciences, where he inspired many including Pimbury’s own Ebony to pursue evidence-based approaches to horse care.

As Pimbury’s in-house Equine Nutritionist, Dr. Barnett leads the development of all our products with one clear principle: science first. Every formulation is built on internationally published research, no fads, no fluff, just rigorously designed products that do what they promise. His expertise ensures every blend is not only scientifically sound but also practical, palatable, and cost-effective for real-world horse owners.

At Pimbury, we believe in doing right by the horse and thanks to Dr. Barnett’s leadership, our nutritional range reflects that commitment in every scoop.

Meet Jonathan Keen, BSc (Hons) EDS

Founder. Equine Dental Tech. App Creator.

Jonathan Keen isn’t your average equine dental technician. With a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Equine Dental Science from Hartpury College (UWE) under his belt since 2008, he’s built a career that combines clinical expertise, innovation, and a genuine love for horses.

Back in uni, his dissertation turned heads…literally. His research on equine dental pathology broke new ground and was picked up by two major veterinary journals (plus a few top tier equine publications). Since then, he’s been all about raising the bar in equine dental care.

In the UK, Jonathan was a qualified member of the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians and recognised by the British Equine Veterinary Association and British Veterinary Dental Association. He even lectured at two equine dentistry schools, helping up and coming techs get hands-on experience.

Together with his business partner, Jonathan co created the Pimbury Dental App a game changing tool for vets and dental techs that’s now powered over 2 million dental charts around the world. It’s smart, simple, and seriously effective.

In 2013, he brought that same forward-thinking energy to Western Australia, founding Pimbury Equine a trusted name in equine dental care across the state and beyond.

When he’s not checking molars or fine-tuning tech, you’ll find Jonathan playing polocrosse with the Margaret River Polocrosse Club, alongside his wife and kids. He also breeds and trains Australian Stockhorses, with high hopes of raising the next champion polocrosse pony.

Meet Ebony Darnell

BSc Equine Dental Technician. Horse Obsessed.

Born and raised in the South West of Western Australia, Ebony Darnell has been around horses for as long as she can remember from early pony club days to chasing balls on the polocrosse field.

After finishing high school, Ebony jumped headfirst into the racing world. She earned her trackwork rider’s licence and spent the next 10 years working as a stablehand and track rider across various Thoroughbred stables. All the while, she was hitting the books, studying a Bachelor of Equine Science through Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, which she proudly completed in 2018.

While studying, Ebony developed a deep interest in equine nutrition. Her lectures with Dr. Mark Barnett sparked a passion for understanding how nutrition impacts equine health and performance. This inspiration is one of the driving forces behind the creation of Pimbury Profeeds, where Ebony now channels that same passion into helping horse owners make informed, science-backed feeding decisions.

Her love for horses extends beyond performance into every aspect of their wellbeing. Ebony spent four years working alongside two experienced equine dental veterinarians, learning the ropes and refining her eye for detail. It was during this time she discovered her true calling: equine dentistry.

In 2022, Ebony completed her Certificate IV in Equine Dentistry in Tamworth. After graduating, she trained closely with Jonathan Keen, gaining advanced hands-on experience and insight into high-performance dental care.

Today, Ebony is a valued member of the Pimbury Equine team, known for combining her science-based knowledge, calm confidence, and practical experience to deliver exceptional care to horses across WA.

When she’s not on the road with her dental kit, you’ll find Ebony playing polocrosse, catching up with the local horse community, or out in the paddock with her own four-legged crew.
